Registered Nurse (RN) – Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) – Hospital Outpatient Department (HOPD)

Call: Approximately 4 weekday call shifts per month and 1 weekend every other month

Position Summary
A respected regional healthcare system is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join its Hospital Outpatient Department (HOPD) Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This position provides the opportunity to care for surgical and observation patients throughout the perioperative recovery process while working alongside an experienced team of surgeons, anesthesia providers, and nursing professionals.
This role is ideal for nurses who enjoy a fast-paced surgical environment, advanced clinical practice, and collaborative patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for outpatient and elective surgical procedures.
- Monitor patients during Phase I post-anesthesia recovery.
- Assess and manage airway, neurological status, hemodynamics, pain, and post-operative complications.
- Care for higher-acuity patients requiring advanced monitoring, including arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, ventilators, and multiple IV infusions.
- Provide nursing care for medical and surgical observation patients.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurse leaders, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Support LPNs and CNAs while promoting efficient patient flow.
- Complete accurate electronic documentation and discharge education.
Qualifications
Required
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN required; BSN preferred)
- Active Montana RN license (or eligibility)
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
- Minimum 2–4 years of recent acute care hospital experience
- Strong IV therapy and critical assessment skills
Preferred
- Critical Care or ICU experience
- Previous PACU or perioperative nursing experience
