Registered Nurse (RN) – Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Setting: Hospital-Based PACU / Perioperative Services

Location: Great Falls, Montana

Position Summary

A regional healthcare leader is seeking an experienced PACU Registered Nurse to join its perioperative services team. This role is ideal for an RN who enjoys caring for patients during the immediate post-anesthesia recovery period while working in a collaborative surgical environment focused on safety, quality, and compassionate care.

The position includes a shared call rotation and offers the opportunity to work with a diverse surgical population in a modern hospital setting.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for elective and outpatient surgical procedures.
  • Provide Phase I post-anesthesia recovery care.
  • Monitor airway, neurological status, hemodynamics, and pain management following surgery.
  • Care for patients with advanced monitoring equipment, including chest tubes, arterial lines, central lines, and ventilators.
  • Manage post-operative pain, nausea, and recovery protocols.
  • Coordinate patient care with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing leadership.
  • Assist with observation patients admitted from the Emergency Department and surgical services.
  • Complete discharge education and safely transition patients to inpatient units or home.

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN required; BSN preferred)
  • Active Montana RN license (or eligibility)
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
  • Minimum 2–4 years of recent acute care hospital experience
  • Strong IV therapy and critical assessment skills

Preferred

  • Critical Care or ICU experience
  • Previous PACU experience
